Yep, I'm planning on beginning my MAME project after the first of the year...and I'm gearing up my plan now. However, one thing has occurred to me: I haven't yet decided what route to go as far as monitor selection.

19" Monitors are cheap, thats for sure. I could go this route for, say, $300 bucks.

25" TV's with S-Video inputs are also cheap....this would be also about $300, but at the same time I'd also need to buy a S-Video Out capable videocard like a Rage Fury 32 or something.......another $150 or so.

Actual Arcade Monitors: I'll be honest, they scare the bejesus out of me. What with the capacitors and the upkeep and the this and the that......YES you get the authentic arcade look and proportions....but at the same time it spooks me a bit to even consider this option, as I know nothing about arcade monitors, and I'd be scared s***less to attempt to fix one if it went funny.

I THINK in the short term I'll build a cab with enough space for a 25" or 27" TV, but mount a 19" PC Monitor in there in the mean-time......to "get the feel". I'll just shrink down the Bezel opening enough so it looks more correct.

But tell me, what do you all think? Are you happy wiht your choices? Can you rotate a PC Monitor 90 degrees to play vertical games WITHOUT ruining the monitor, or....??

Finally....Svideo on a TV......yes its great, no its not? This MAME Cab could also ultimately become a Playstation Cab, as well as other-emulator cabs....which would require the TV route...what do you all think?
