Hi, my vote has to be for the real arcade monitor. Don't be intimidated by one, really it's basically a tv w/out the casing. I don't know much about them either, nor would I be any more worried w/ it than a tv or pc monitor. I think each has it's advantages. I have 3 cabs, all 25" arcade monitors. One vertical and 2 horizontal and am still not satisfied. As far as turning the monitor on it's side. . I wouldn't. The s-video thing seems to get mixed results, some like it some don't, would be nice to see some sort of side by side comparison. You also don't have to have a tv to run your PSX, Saturn, etc game system in your cab. I have successfully hooked up both of these systems in one of my cabs to an arcade monitor. A little while back, someone on rec.games.video.arcade.collecting was selling some 27" vga monitors for $350, claiming that they were perfect Mame monitors. Shop around a little bit if you go that route.Hope this helps.
