: : They are analog controls and use the x and y axis.

: I've been just using a ps/2 mouse to try getting the Y axis to swap the X axis in EMU+, but no matter what I change in the menus, I just get arkanoid responding only to the X axis. I'm trying to get an understanding of how to implement and configure 2 spinners but I can't even get the mouse to configure its axes.

: Where can I find insight on doing this properly?

This is how I got 2 Player Blasteroids working with a PS/2 mouse:

Go to the Optimame Extras screen in the config menu. Change 'Analog Input 2' to 'Dial V'. Then under the Analog Axis config screen, make sure 'Mouse X Axis' is set to 'P2 X'. Now your mouse should be able to control both the players at once.

I use Blasteroids to test configurations just because it is a simultaneous 2 player spinner game. See if that helps.
