Due to requests for this IC, I built a 5 peice programmer used to program the Atmel IC for my joystick mod. I found this on the net and tried it to make sure it would work. Even though I did not need another programmer, this one will be portable and handy.

If you can solder, you can make this. I really did not want to get into the IC programming business. I just posted costs for people that could not do it themselves. I will still do it for people who can not make this. But it requires less work then the actual joystick mod. And once you have a programmer, you can updated the IC software as I update the IC software. And you may have the old computer parts lying around to make the programmer, so the cost would be $0.

Try this easy to make programmer:

Here are the parts needed for the joystick mod.:

www.digikey.com
IC digikey# AT90S1200A-12PC-ND or AT90S1200A-4PC-ND
18" cable with 24pin DIP # C4PXT-2418M-ND or C2PXT-2418M-ND
20pin socket # A9420-ND

The cable is an easy way to hook up the IC. Just solder the socket to the DIP on the cable. Beats soldering directly to the socket. Digikey does not have a 20pin cable, so just solder the IC to one side and ignore the extra pins. Put some double-sided tape on the back of the cable's DIP and stick it where you want it.

Hope this helps.

Derrick
