It does (did) indeed occur with original PCBs, but I've FOUND THE PROBLEM. It was a bent capacitor on the neck board that was leaning too close to a nearby resistor. I pushed the capacitor upright and haven't seen it since. I was only led to look at this after reading some info about these types of symptoms at Randy Fromm's technical page. What a great site!
