- I think it's great that you figured out what was wrong, but I was just wondering...how did you ever think to try that? Just curious.. :)

: The bending back of the capacitor into place turned out it did not fix the problem. I just didn't wait long enough for the red flashes to appear. Here's a tip for anyone who gets this problem in the future...

: If you have problem with a particular color covering the entire screen, and there are vertical retrace lines visible in this solid color (brighter lines of the same color that slant from lower left to upper right), you probably have a problem with a heater-cathode short. Basically, a piece of the cathode inside the sealed glass tube (CRT) has crumbled off and fallen into the back of the monitor and caused a short. To fix, you can try tilting the monitor forward enough so that the neck on the back of the tube is higher than the front screen. Then try knocking gently on the front of the monitor. If the color flashes each time you knock, keep knocking gently but firmly. Eventually, you may knock that cathode piece out of the path of the electron gun so that it falls to the lower front of the tube. You would know this because the solid color will flick back to normal and it won't reappear if you keep knocking. Basically, the screen will stabilize.

: Good luck!
