I believe that many people just download each time a release happens. Who the heck has the time to keep up with every beta? Makes sense to me and it's a valid question.

: They are very rare. There's only been two or three in MAME's four year life. MAME is constantly being worked on, so it'll always be in beta. However, all the beta's are official.

: It's impossible to say when the next non-beta release will be. Only Nicola decides when and I bet he doesn't even have an idea of when it'll happen.
