Some 8way sticks that adjust to 4way have a removable restictor plate on the back, the problem is you have to disassemble the whole stick to change it. Most 8way sticks that claim to change to 4way keep 2 switches from being pushed at the same time but they don't restrict the actual movement of the stick. (and it's not that much easier to change than the other way) So it's really no improvement over an 8way.
Putting a 2piece restictor on the front is the obvious solution and has been talked about for a while. Somebody finally did something about it.

: this mite be a dumb question but why do ppl get seperate 8 way jstick and seperate 4 way jstick each for different game purposes?

: cuz isnt the 8 way joystick from happs able to be adjusted to be 4 way somehow?
