Tweaking DOS for optimal performance

Well, I got my emulators, ArcadeOS, sound card, PS2 mouse, serial trackball, and serial spinner all working fine under pure DOS. The next step is to make them work EVEN BETTER. I'm getting greedy.

Does anyone have any tips for optimizing DOS performace? (That hard drive really thrashes.) Does anyone have useful utilities for improving DOS memory usage? How about sharing some msdos.sys, congif.sys, or autoexec.bat secrets?
