No you do not have to solder if you use KE72. I felt more comfortable with wire connectors and my crimping tool. The ribbon cable will fit right onto the KE72. Then I carefully stripped back all the wires and wired them to the barrier strip. (that thing with the screw downs). Then I ran 20 gauge wire forn the other end of the barrier strip to the button or joystick. You will need to crimp a connector on then push it onto the button or joystick. You will need 2 different sizes of connectors .025 and .01875 I think but check to be sure. I haven't soldered anything and my project is 95% complete. Good Luck.
