The ribbon cable doesn't come with the KE72 but you can use any harddrive ribbon cable. I do remember that after I hooked mine up one of the inputs didn't work...not a biggie, I just rerouted the wires to the second ribbon cable and second set of inputs. I read somewhere that two of the wires on the ribbon cable aren't connected at both ends; that would possibly explain why the one input mysteriously didn't work. I think I also read that if you buy a SCSII cable instead of a standard HD cable all wires are connected on both ends...just something you might want to research more if you plan on using all the possible wires on one of the ribbon cables.

As for soldering, you certainly don't have to...but...if you've ever stripped the wires on a harddrive cable you'll know that they are very tiny. Personally I think you'd be best off to cut off one end of the ribbon cable, strip the wires, twist and solder larger wires to extend the cable and make a 'wiring harness', and then use solderless connectors to connect the harness wires to the controls.

Plan on spending some time with the wiring...it was by far the most time consuming and tedious part of my project.

Good luck!

: Thanks for the quick reply, and thanks for the info. I'm glad to hear that the soldering isn't required...I'm more comfortable NOT doing it, plus it just seems "cleaner" using the barrier strips and clamps. Thanks for the info on the KE72...no other site talks about if a ribbon cable connector is on it already or not. If you have any pics or anything of your project and want to share...send it my way. I can't wait to get started!
