These are expensive (~$60 a pop) but are a good way to avoid any soldering as well as stripping flat cable etc... They have a 40-pin (regular HD IDE connector) female connector with corresponding terminals for each pin... This is probably overkill, but is just one of those things I found along the way... (I also managed to procure a couple through a friend for free!!)...

: No you do not have to solder if you use KE72. I felt more comfortable with wire connectors and my crimping tool. The ribbon cable will fit right onto the KE72. Then I carefully stripped back all the wires and wired them to the barrier strip. (that thing with the screw downs). Then I ran 20 gauge wire forn the other end of the barrier strip to the button or joystick. You will need to crimp a connector on then push it onto the button or joystick. You will need 2 different sizes of connectors .025 and .01875 I think but check to be sure. I haven't soldered anything and my project is 95% complete. Good Luck.
