I cant get advance mame to even load. Please help!

Ive been pulling my hair out trying to get advance mame to run. Im reading the installtion instructions and it says to change the parameters in the mame.cfg file, but how do I do this? When I go to dos and try to run mame, I get this:

And when I try to run the frontend for adv. mame, it is just blank.

Im pulling my damn hair out over this! The documentaion might as well be in latin. My $1600 cabinet is all complete, my ke-72 up and running, and I cant get this! Ive never even been able to test the video yet! Please help!
