: Here's the beginning of my video section in mame.cfg. Note I'm just pasting my 1st few modes, I actually have 70 of them!

: default_mode = smart
: hclock = 30-52
: vclock = 50-120
: modeline0 = default_graph vbeline(4117 65.0900 1024 1056 1144 1344 768 773 783 809 -hsync -vsync)
: modeline1 = 1024x768x8 vbeline(4105 64.4100 1024 1056 1144 1344 768 769 779 800 -hsync -vsync)
: modeline2 = default_graph-old vbeline(4114 38.2000 768 816 896 1016 600 601 604 627 -hsync +vsync)
: modeline3 = v-480x512-60 vbeline(4111 27.0000 480 632 688 776 512 513 514 580 +hsync -vsync)
: modeline4 = v-384x512-60 vbeline(4111 24.2600 384 528 600 696 512 519 520 580 -hsync -vsync)

: : Advance MAME can be tricky at first, but it's not as hard as it seems right now. Don't give up.

: : Here are some little guidelines:

: : 1) In mame.cfg you must setup your monitor scan ranges. Like this for example:

: : default_mode = smart
: : hclock = 30-52
: : vclock = 50-120

: : That is the range for my Princeton monitor, your's may be very different.

: : 2) The next step is to use mv.exe to create and pick video modes for Advance MAME to use. You can test any mode by hitting f10. In the beginning don't try to create custom modes, just select existing modes with the space bar and exit. If you did it right thoe modes will now be in your mame.cfg. They'll look something like this in the video section - note that I edited the names of the modes to suit my prerferences, that can be done using TAB in mv.

: :
: : modeline0 = default[video]
: : default_mode = smart
: : hclock = 30-52
: : vclock = 50-120

: : default_graph vbeline(4117 65.0900 1024 1056 1144 1344 768 773 783 809 -hsync -vsync)
: : modeline1 = 1024x768x8 vbeline(4105 64.4100 1024 1056 1144 1344 768 769 779 800 -hsync -vsync)
: : modeline2 = default_graph-old vbeline(4114 38.2000 768 816 896 1016 600 601 604 627 -hsync +vsync)
: : modeline3 = v-480x512-60 vbeline(4111 27.0000 480 632 688 776 512 513 514 580 +hsync -vsync)

: : Note the 1st mode (it's actually a 1024x768 mode) is named default_graph - mm will automatically use that mode if you name it that.

: : You should then be set to try mm and Advance MAME itself. If you still get nowhere, post your mame.cfg here for us to look at. Also post your exact hardware and OS setup. Nick and I will try our best to get you started.
