In Reply to: Just compiled MAME without the OK screens for myself for the first time...it's really not as difficult as I thought. I'm not bragging just excited cause I'm not programmer!!!...more posted by Bill W on 7, 2000 at 5:45 PM:

That's a nice FAQ, thanks for the url. I have never compiled MAME but it doesn't look that hard to do. I'm personally not interested in removing the OK screens as I like to be able to see the arcade board's hardware specs. BTW, ArcadeOS 2.40 has an setting that bypasses the ok screens. Actually it looks like it just enters "ok" quickly so you don't have to.

My question is about compiling AdvancedMAME. I went to the AdvancedMAME website to see if the source code is available but the site says it's offline for at least a couple of days.

If the source is available, can the directions posted on the FAQ site be used to compile AdvancedMAME? I am using AdvancedMAME on an arcade monitor and I have noticed that it is slower than vanilla MAME. Could compiling AdvancedMAME with the make I686=1 option optimize AdvancedMAME for PII and PIII computers? Or is AdvancedMAME just slower because of all the video tricks that it performs?
