: My question is about compiling AdvancedMAME. I went to the AdvancedMAME website to see if the source code is available but the site says it's offline for at least a couple of days.

There's part of the Mame license that requires you to post the changes to Mame in derivative versions. You may have to download regular Mame's source then copy the files from AdvanceMame source over the regular Mame source, then it should compile regularly. I haven't compiled AdvanceMame, but I've compiled other versions and that's what you usually have to do.

: If the source is available, can the directions posted on the FAQ site be used to compile AdvancedMAME? I am using AdvancedMAME on an arcade monitor and I have noticed that it is slower than vanilla MAME. Could compiling AdvancedMAME with the make I686=1 option optimize AdvancedMAME for PII and PIII computers? Or is AdvancedMAME just slower because of all the video tricks that it performs?

Probably some of both, I686=1 should speed it up a little bit, but won't put it to the same speed as regular Mame.
