: I disagree. It's no more "windowsy" than MameWizard, 1-Up, or any of a dozen other frontends. I'll agree with that definately. To me though it seems like alot of work setting up a FE that looks basically what mame32 looks like without any setup. It does have alot more features than the mame32 gui though, so it's understandable.
: I don't know enough about programming in any language to be offended.
Apparently I have offended at least one (sorry buzzdat) but the fact of the matter is, a featured-rich fe isn't "an easy thing to program" although in the case of el it might suit the purpose. I've tried em all to btw, but obviously I prefer vb for most functions. And I only use c++ or vc++ as a last resort. (usually to make a plugin to add more functionality to vb) Just a preference though, it matters not.
: Basically, what it needs is a command line option to launch tables. I contacted Randy Davis (by E-mail) about this about a year ago and got no reply.
Nah it's easy enough to launch, but gosh darn it they need to keep the damn vp tables named the same as the roms that go with them. Also when they revise a table, they need to call that table the same thing, and rename the old table if they want to. It's these things taht make it hard to keep up with.
: I assume you know about the Internet Pinball Database http://www.lysator.liu.se/pinball/IPD/ (link below also). There are also some pics on Bally and Williams home pages and probably the best source is E-bay. (That's the main thing I use for www.mameworld.net/imagxtreme) (shameless plug!)
Yeah I'm aware of it, but it's plagued by the same probs as the vp tables... alot of the names don't necessarialy match to the roms they go with. So they would have to be renamed, one-by-one. I don't have the time to do anything that extensive right now, but if I can get some help I would be glad to.
: Contact me directly if you make any progress on this. I might be able to help out with that (through contacts, not personally).
I will.... if we can start some kind of a team to work on all of this perhaps we can get the vp developers on board and get some much needed standardization.
