Help w/Sound - Starts to have noise after a minute or so...

Here's my problem: I'm running mame (both from the command prompt and ArcadeFX) and after about a minute or two of playing, the sound gets really bad - it's not that it completely inaudible, but it gets really noisy - static, cracks, etc. I'm not sure what the problem is, but if anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

I'm running the latest version of MAME in my new PC - an AMD 850 MHz with 256 MB of RAM and a Sound Blaster 16. I just got everything hooked up today with the TV and all and I'd love to get it working perfectly.
