: I am in the planning stage of building my first MAME machine. Needless to say that I am getting pretty excited. I have a couple of questions though...
I don't think that your going to need more than one 4-way joystick in mame. Most people only use it for pac-man, donkey kong, and some of their variants/ripoffs.
The Comp usa ball is a great trackball, but obviously it's not going to be as good as the arcade trackballs. I think you'll be pretty satisfied with it though, and you can always upgrade later. (Real arcade trackballs can be very expensive unless you get a good deal.)
A trackball isn't necessary unless you plan on playing alot of trackball games though. It's nice for navigating through windows, but all of the newer front-ends have good keyboard/joystick support, so you won't need it for that department. Mame32 even has an often neglected, seldom used, joystick navigation option.
: 1.) I am thinking of going with 4 happ controls super joysticks (for 4 player games). Would it be worth it to install a 4 way joystick as well? From what I can tell it would be worth it. However, should I have two 4-way joysticks? Are there games that 2 people can play that would be frustrating on two 8-ways?
: 2.) Trackballs: I figure I better install one of these right away, and was looking for a cheap solution. I ended up looking at the crystal trackball from compusa. I am concerned however, about the feel. Will it spin fast, like an arcade golf game?
: Thanks!
