couple of questions

I am in the planning stage of building my first MAME machine. Needless to say that I am getting pretty excited. I have a couple of questions though...

1.) I am thinking of going with 4 happ controls super joysticks (for 4 player games). Would it be worth it to install a 4 way joystick as well? From what I can tell it would be worth it. However, should I have two 4-way joysticks? Are there games that 2 people can play that would be frustrating on two 8-ways?

2.) Trackballs: I figure I better install one of these right away, and was looking for a cheap solution. I ended up looking at the crystal trackball from compusa. I am concerned however, about the feel. Will it spin fast, like an arcade golf game?
