In Reply to: Can I use a switched arcade psu to power JUST my arcade monitor with no jamma board posted by sermad on January 14, 2002 at 18:12:14:

I have been researching this. First of all the switching power supply only provides DC current to power coin door lights and any other low current dc power required fot the game. This power supply has an input for the AC the switching power supply then provides DC power where required. To power the Monitor however you need an Isolation transformer which along with the Marquee lights will be powered from the 120v AC power also. On the JPac Website it mentions using the arcade switching power supply without any load on it will damage the switching power supply. I researched using this supply for other things in the cabinet like dc fans, low voltage dc lights and maybe a car amp and from what I have found it seems just about any load on the switcher as many call it is suficient and no damage should occur. For excellent information on how to set up your cab from scratch with a Isolation transformer and switcher check out this page by Bob Roberts

I hope this helps.

: Hey guys.

: I just finished reconditioning a dusty old arcade cabinet by giving it a lick of paint and putting a pc running mame inside it. I used the j-pac interface to get the controls working and its all fine so far. The problem is powering the monitor.

: The guy that sold me the cab took out the psu cos he said it was bust and I said cool cos I wont need it anway as I was doing a mame conversion. But I want to power the monitor and all the nice marque lights and so on...so can I just buy a working arcade psu and use it as I thought I couldnt because it would have no jamma board in it thus not having enough load. will it work??!??
