Splicing Cat 5 cable into keyboard cable?

Would it be possible to send all the correct signals for a keyboard through one or two cat 5 cables? I'm thinking about how I could set up a keyboard and control box for You Don't Know Jack in the living room that would connect to the computer downstairs in the basement. I'm probably going to wire the house for network cable anyway, so I could use cat 5 plugs in the wall to hook up all the controls. The cable would run through the walls into a patch panel, and a cable with a cat 5 plug on one end and a ps/2 plug on the other would take the signal to the computer. The video would be taken care of by sending my s-video out through an rf modulator into the cable wiring in the walls up to the tv. So would the cat 5 work for the keyboard? If not, does anyone have any ideas for using controllers in another room like this? Wireless maybe?

Thanks,
EA
