I happen to be running my Mame machine with this exact same setup (though only temporarily until I get my arcade monitor.) The problem is that a TV hust doesn't have the dot-pitch to handle high-res graphics.

You can make text a *little* more readable by cranking up the sharpness and contrast and lowering the brightness on your TV, but this usually makes games look like crap. So I just went into the Windows Accessibility options and set it to use bigger text. Turning off font smoothing seems to help too. Unfortunately, if you're running XP, increasing the font size only changes the fonts for menus and such. When a message box appears, you may need to run Magnifier to read it, also in the accessibility control panel.
