Mame is really wierd when it comes to what kind of system it works well on. My friend has a 1.4Athlon w/256ddr, generic tnt2 and he was barely able to play NBA Live (like 40fps) and then there is my system. An Athlon 700 w/512sdr Viper770 tnt2, and I got full 59fps. And then my mame cabinet which is a P2-333 w/128sdr and a matrox g450 which gets like 30fps. from what I have seen there is no rhyme or reason th how well a game plays based on the processor or RAM (other than load time). Actual game play has I think has a lot to do with the video card and the chipset on the mother board!
(ps all of the above systems had win98 loaded, running dos mame in dos (not a dos box))
