yes you need the sound drivers for the sound card but you don't need the video drivers. If it is working in Windows 98 dos window it will work from pure dos. The advice the other guy gave you was really good. If it will run without the sound card you know what your problem is. The first thing to check is make sure your are initializing the card in the autoexec.bat file. I think the file you need to run is like sb16ini.exe or something like that it should be under your creative directory. Then under the autoexec.bat there should be a line that looks like one of these two things SET BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 T2, or SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 T2. If it doesn't match either of those change it so it does. It has to be in that form. Also you may want to run the ctcm.exe file in the autoexec.bat this will reset the soundcard. One other thing you can do is make sure you pull everything out of the box besides your video card and sound card. Take out any modem or nic that might me in there and see if it works this should help get your soundblaster on a lower irq. To work in dos it must be on an irq lower than 10. 5 or 7 are ideal but I've got it to work on 9. One thing that might help is to copy your autoexec.bat file for windows 98 and put it on your pure dos system. Hope that helps
