: I thought a good test project would be to make a small control box with a joystick and a few buttons before I went ahead and refurbished an old cabinet. So I figured I'd get/find a small wood box to mount the controls to. Here's my question: How thick does the wood have to be in order to mount the joystick and buttons? Seems that everyone out there is using 3/4" MDF or Plywood, just wondering if that thickness is necesary or can these controls mount on any thickness of wood?
For a small test box, (I just made one myself) any wood thickness would do as long as it's not too flexy. The smaller the area that needs to be spanned, the thinner the wood can be. For a full size panel, I would stick to the 3/4 thickness as the box will be much larger and take a beating.
