Hey Chris,
You're quote kind of tells the tale: "I hoped that it would be as easy as the other versions of Windows". It's not. NT is anything *but* multi-media friendly. Microsoft's Knowledge Base has an article on how to install the driver for an analog joystick. As with everything regarding Windows NT, it's kind of a pain in the ass. :) Here's the website:
