It just seems weird to me that I can get the sound working great in other games in pure dos (actually win98 dos using the same autoexec.bat, etc), just mame doesn't like it. I've tried the command line route but was using the original mame.cfg so it didn't prompt me. I'll try it again with the sound prompt.

: I had the same problem with my ASUS K7M. The DOS drivers don't work in pure DOS (windows dos box only) because the mobo doesn't support NMI, so that also meens that I can't use any PCI based sound cards in pure DOS either. I'm using a SB16 PnP and it works great. I think its better than the onboard sound because it has that 3d audio thing that makes most games sound better than without using it.
