This can be done fairly easily, but the interface will determine just how easy.

With my interface (KE72T), there are 2 seperate wiring harnesses - 1 goes to the UP/DOWN side of the trackball, the other goes to the LEFT/RIGHT. By simply plugging the harness into the other optical board, you can make UP/DOWN really be LEFT/RIGHT.

: Does anyone know how to reassign the optical direction controls in MAME, the way you can reassign different keys / buttons.

: I don't mean just swapping left and right (can use reverse option), but I mean can you make "up" with the trackball = left on screen, if say, you've mounted a trackball sideways ?

: I tried going to the CONTROLS THIS GAME menu, went down to selection, pressed but it doesn't read the input when you move the mouse/trackball so no reassignment takes place.
