I actually bought the $3 volume control a while back but didn't think it would work. I'll share my ignorance in hopes of helping others.

I don't have the part number with me but it was a 3watt volume control (not sure of the technical name, potemeter maybe, will post that and the part number later). I was worried that it wouldn't work with my 100watt speakers but I know little about the matter and when I opened my speakers it had 3watt stamped on the back of them and my brother said it would work.

Next was how to mount it. The shaft was so short that I didn't know how to use I with my 5/8s thick cabinet. I decided to get the $14 volume control that mounts in an electrical box. It came with a white face plate so I picked up a blank/solid face plate that was darkbrown and drilled a hole in the middle. The parts have been laying around for a couple of days when I posted my question and after reading Fultra's response it occurred to me. Just mount the $3 stereo volume control on the faceplate and take back the $14 one. Sometimes the simple solutions are right in front of us and we can't even see them.

Another option would be to route out the wood so the volume control shaft would stick far enough through the cabinet, but I had already cut out a place for an electrical box.

Thanks everyone.

: Look at your leafswitches. If the gap is too large, you will have problems moving in diags. You can adjust this by simply bending (slightly) the metal leafs. The size of the actuator also plays a big role in this as well.

: About the volume control....

: Radio Shack sells a volume control (stereo) for about $3.00, not $30.00. I have one that I used on my cabinet. Unfortunatly I don't have the part # handy.

: And yes, there are a fair amount of games that are in stereo - most, if not all of the Neo-Geo games are stereo.
