Look at your leafswitches. If the gap is too large, you will have problems moving in diags. You can adjust this by simply bending (slightly) the metal leafs. The size of the actuator also plays a big role in this as well.
About the volume control....
Radio Shack sells a volume control (stereo) for about $3.00, not $30.00. I have one that I used on my cabinet. Unfortunatly I don't have the part # handy.
And yes, there are a fair amount of games that are in stereo - most, if not all of the Neo-Geo games are stereo.
