Does Mame support Medium Res monitors?

I have a Hitachi 29" monitor in my Capcom JAMMA cabinet and it is a 15/24KHz monitor. I have a couple of questions:

1) Does MAME support medium resolution monitors? What about most video cards?

2) On the monitor pcb there are two sets of connector pins, one for 15KHz mode and one for 24KHz mode. It's currently set in 15KHz mode. If I move the connector to the 24KHz pins what would happen with AOS and MAME? Would I only be able to play medium res games if MAME even supports medium res monitors?

3) Is having to select 15/24KHz manually common with arcade monitors that support medium res?
