use of serial mouse and KE24

I am using a KE24 encoder. The KE24 occupies the serial port and uses com1. My spinner is mede from a serial mouse and my trackball is using the PS2 port. How can I use the serial mouse (spinner) at the same time as the KE24 without rebooting everytime? Should I buy a USB mouse and re-make the spinner using the guts of the USB mouse?
