Quick keyboard hack question.... (sorry!)

I just need a simple answer to this one question, if there is such a thing... My question is, if I use the keyboard hack method to wire up my arcade controls, and I use diodes correctly, will this allow the keyboard encoder to recognize more than 4 keypresses at once? I've tried reading up on this, but having little electronics knowledge I'm still confused...
