I have never made this but as for #'s on ICs if they don't match then more often than not you have a totally different chip. You can get "equivalent" chips if you know what kind of chip it is (NAND, OR, OP AMP, ect.) and then choose a replacement accordingly. This is presuming an equivalent is still available.
