Well I use a LP-24 keyboard encoder. The main reason is you have pretty much inlimited inputs. I use mine in a 2 x 22 matrix for a total of 44 keys. But I could take it up to 12 x 12 for 144 inputs if I were to ever need it. It's really easy to setup and wire. You don't have to solder if you really don't want to. You can use it in pure DOS. Can the MS Sidewinder do that? I'm not sure on that 'cause I've never owned one. But a encoder just makes it real easy to make hook-ups and changes for future use. My $0.02 =) Game On!

: I'm puzzled as to why more people don't use two gamepad pro's or similar gamepad dolly-chained for their controls. These type of gamepads (ms sidewinder, gamepad pro) have at least 6 buttons each which is enough for your basic control panel, yet I see no one doing this. Why is that? On the gravis gamepads, i believe it has 8 buttons for a total of 16. 12 for the action buttons with 4 extra buttons for other functions.
