Bezel Making - Painting plexiglass

I have a question about making a bezel... any help appreciated....

After ruining my Happs cut-to-fit bezel, I am looking to adapt my plexiglass screen cover to act as a bexel only.

I was thinking about spray painting a 2" border around the plexiglass. I have Plasticote spray paints... will this work well on plastic? Will I need a clear coat?
