I just finished hacking 2 playstation controllers for controls for my MAME cab. I ran into some problems using controllers that had auto-fire or programmable features on them. The driver that I was using for them would push buttons by themselves without me pushing on the controller (very annoying). Another person suggested that I use a basic playstation controller. Does'nt have any extra stuff on it. I looked all over for them. They are hard to find anymore. I found some at toys-r-us, KT Electronics I think is the brand name, for $9.99. Easy to hack, they have nice solder points to attach to.
