problems with playstation controllers

I recently purchased a chord that plugs into the printer port and allows 2 playstation controllers to hook up to the computer. Everything seems ok. When playing MAME, the buttons will push by themselves at random without me touching the controller. Anyone else have this problem. Solutions????
