I was thinking of using an electric window motor from a car. It already runs from 12VDC which a computer power supply already provides. It might draw "too much" juice from the power supply though.

These surplus motors a usually geared down pretty well so they would turn the monitor slow with plenty of torque. They are also cheap. A great electronics surplus place is www.meci.com.

I was also thinking of putting a rubber wheel on the motor and making it contact the rotating disk from the outer edge instead of from the center axis.

The drill idea is great. I love the way this board keeps me thinking.
