Thanks, that helps a lot. But in the T2 game, each gun not only recoiled when pulling the trigger, but also synced with the actual machine gun shots (and sound) for that particular gun--i.e. when player 1 started to run out of ammo, the recoil got slower, even while p2 had plenty of ammo and was firing away.

I could try to use the audio signal somehow, but it would pick up the shots from both players, since the shot sounds aren't separate stereo channels. Also any BG explosions or loud dialogue.

I know I'm being a pest, but I'd like this to be as faithful a re-creation as possible.
