20-22 gauge wire should be fine, but (for me) I seem to be working fine with solid core cat3 cable. I'd pick up some .187 insulated crimp quick disconnects (#64-3132 - they're red) to make life easier, too. Obviously, you'd need to get the crimping tool if you don't have it.

If you don't have a multimeter, I'd pick one of those up, too - I've been fairly happy with my new Auto-Ranging Digital Multimeter (#22-809) for about $25. Set it to continuity mode, and you can guarantee that your crimps are good _before_ you get too far along.

For ease of use with the iPac's limited ground terminals, I bought a terminal strip (#274-670) and bus bar (#274-650) from ratshack as well, because running all my grounds to a bus bar and running a lead off the bus bar seemed like an easier option than daisy chaining all the grounds like Andrew Warne suggests. (Less chance for a failed crimp to throw the whole circuit open. I'll lose a button with a bad crimp and I know it's just the button. I lose all buttons, and I know it's the bus bar<->iPac ground connection.)

But there're all kinda of options, and that's part of what makes this so much fun. :) Best of luck!
