: : OK, I've always run Arcadeos from a dos shell in Win98 SE. Just recently I've been messing around with the bootgui option and going straight into DOS. My config.sys looks something like this:

: : DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
: : DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS

: : And my autoexec.bat looks like this:

: : SET BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 H7 P330 T6
: : SET SBPCI=C:\PROGRA~1\CREATIVE\AUDIO\DOSDRV
: : LH C:\WINDOWS\SMARTDRV.EXE A- C+ 2048
: : C:\OPTIDRV\CTMOUSEP (trackball)
: : C:\OPTIDRV\OPTIDRV /1 (spinner)
: : doskey
: : cd mame
: : arcadeos.exe

: : Does anyone know of other tweaks I can put in here to get the maximum frame rate from some later games such as Metal Slug and NBA Jam? Do I need to load the mouse drivers in high memory? My DOS is extremely rusty. I'm running a AMD Duron 700 with 128 MB of RAM and a Trident Blade 3D card.

: : Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

: : Thanks,
: : Doug

: I've posted this suggestion b4, so excuse if old news:
: I have 128MB and so use CWSDPMI version 4 - dont use v.3; there's a new version 5 but haven't tried it yet. To stop disk access slowdown (CWSDPMI uses a swapfile) on big ROMS like Metal Slug, change your config.sys line to:

: DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS NOVCPI

: This makes the max amount of mem available to CWSDPMI and worked a treat 4 me, although I dont use SMARTDRV.

So, instead of using smartdrv I should run CWSDPMI? When you run it from 98 CWSDPMI just needs to reside in the same directory of mame, do I need to run it in my autoexec.bat? Do you have a copy of your autoexec and config.sys you could mail me? dhansen111@home.com

Thanks for your help!

Doug
