Perhaps I wasn't clear in my earlier post. I like the shape of the Pacman cabinets, but I don't specifically want one, just something similar. If I were able to get ahold of a Pacman cabinet, even though I'm trying to build a MAME machine, I would feel compelled to restore it rather than convert it. And since I don't have the time or money to restore a machine, I'm gonna make sure I get a cabinet that is not worth restoring.

I fully understand where you are coming from with all this. I have the same passion about my cars. Even though they are far from collectable, I can't help but think that in 25 years, they are going to be rare, so they're worth preserving now (maybe if I didn't feel that way I wouldn't own 4 cars now)

I hope this sets your mind at ease : )

Thanks everyone for all the info!

: I'm not trying to rag on you, so please don't take it that way at all. In fact, welcome to the madness!
: However, if you haven't read saint's manifesto please do, and don't ruin an irreplaceable classic by mameing it. Find an abused generic cabinet of some kind (if you're ever near an auction you can get them for like $25, or even free if you look enough), or consider building your own! Lots of good plans on the examples page.

: And *if* you must mame a classic, do it so that it's reversible - don't paint over the side art, don't drill holes in the control panel (make a new one instead), consider selling/giving away the good guts/marquee/etc if you don't want them to a collector trying to do a restore, etc...

: Again, not trying to knock you or anything, but when you mentioned Pacman or Galaga, I cringed...

: So anyway, good luck!
