However, if you haven't read saint's manifesto please do, and don't ruin an irreplaceable classic by mameing it. Find an abused generic cabinet of some kind (if you're ever near an auction you can get them for like $25, or even free if you look enough), or consider building your own! Lots of good plans on the examples page.
And *if* you must mame a classic, do it so that it's reversible - don't paint over the side art, don't drill holes in the control panel (make a new one instead), consider selling/giving away the good guts/marquee/etc if you don't want them to a collector trying to do a restore, etc...
Again, not trying to knock you or anything, but when you mentioned Pacman or Galaga, I cringed...
