Yes it would technically load faster but the load time is so low anyway that it really doesn't make that much of a difference. Will they run faster, no. You would actually be better off letting them use the full 256mb. One way to get ArcadeOS to start "faster" would be to change the following:
#don't check for new games at startup
instantstart=0
Change the 0 to 1 and ArcadeOS won't ask Mame what games it supports each time.
