: Hi,

: My desktop arcade controller is a bit screwy and I could use a little help. I wired it up using a gameport cable and a few resistors. It used to work pretty well in MAME DOS but recently I thought I would do some soldering so the connections wouldn't come loose as they occassionally did.

: It works about the same as it did before my soldering in windows, but in DOS the right and down directions on the joystick do not work. I'm not sure quite why. Anyway, I think I may be able to get it working if I change the "thresholds" for the x and y axis in mame.cfg. I really don't have any idea just how the numbers show be modified though. I would guess that I would just change the numbers so they are closer to the center value, but what are those other numbers? max? min?

: Please help.
: I will probably just buy an IPAC later on, but right now I will be sticking to my simple joystick.

: The right and down inputs work in MAME32 but under the TAB > input menues, it doesn't show the normal axis y+ or y- or whatever the normal is. Instead it shows some really long string of values that I didn't recognize. It might have been axis z + AND something NOT blank...

: Thanks for any help.

Could you tell us the value of the resistors and how you have them wired up? It sounds like you don't have enough resistance to go right or down.
