: : : Could you tell us the value of the resistors and how you have them wired up? It sounds like you don't have enough resistance to go right or down.

: : Following some dude named Dave's design, I used 50k resistors for centering and 100k resistors for right and down. I guess I could try 200k resistors. But I was hoping for a quick fix (messing with mame.cfg) so I could just do some short cps2 gaming before attempting other stuff.

: : I'll just mess around with the numbers and see what happens.

: The following should work much better for you:
: If your switches have 3 connections (com,nc,no), then you could use two 100K resistors per axis. Connect the +5V to the COM tab on each switch. Connect a 100K resistor from the NC tab on each switch to the input for that axis. Connect the NO tab on the Left switch to the axis input. Do not connect the NO tab on the Right switch. Now when you press Left it will see 0 resistance and when you aren't pushing anything it will see 50K resistance (centered) and when you press Right it will see 100K resistance.
: To do the up/down axis just substitute up for left and down for right.
