Yes...it takes a little getting used to I guess...but, this is the way I've always played it in the arcade..so, I'm used to it this was on Mame.
The basic strategy I use, it to get to the outside as best I can then I move around the screen on the edge shooting behind me in the opposite direction as everything follows after you....give this a try and see how it goes.

: Do most people use the arcade layout and use left joystick for move and right for fire, or do you switch them, I tried both was and I still found myself moving in the direction I want to fire, and not firing it the correct direction.
