Dub,

What video card are you using?

Here's what I did to get it working

1. Install windows
2. Configure windows for 640x480 x 16bit w/ Standard 640x480 monitor
3. Edit MSDOS.SYS to turn BOOTGUI=0 (if done in dos dont forget to attrib -r -h -s msdos.sys)
4. Went to the directory where I had Advance Cab and copied standard.cfg to vbe.cfg and vga.cfg
5. Edit autoexec.bat to include these lines :
c:\[path to univbe]\univbe
c:\[path to cwsdpmi]\cwsdpmi -p
cd\[path to acab]
vgav
vbev
6. While in vgav and vbev you will need to do some housekeeping. Clean out all bad modes, and only select modes that work.
7. After completing these steps I tried loading vbe by typing : vbe /l
8. It failed initially saying Mode 0 wasn't supported by the current VBE Bios, this was resolved by running vbev again and cleaning out the dirty modes (ntsc and pal).
9. VBE finally loaded. You need to make sure that there is a 640x480x16 mode in vbe.cfg otherwise windows will load in standard refresh (vertical garbage).

Hopefully that will help you out.
